Two weeks ago I went to Rukum with a group from the HDCS office. My purpose for going there was to see the ABBS project witch is run by two of ABBS' staff. The office of this program is close to the hospital in Chaujahari in Rukum that also is run by HDCS. We were supposed to go directly by plane, but since our plane got delayed and then cancelled, we had to change our plans. We went by plane to Nepalgunsj, farther south from Chaurajahari, and from there we went by car on the road to chaurajahari. It was supposed to take approximately 7-8 hours. However, after a few hours the road was no longer paved, it got more and more winding around the steep hills. Some places it was rocky and other places it was lots and lots of sand. Our driver wasn't the most experienced so after ca 5 hours drive we got stuck in the sand...
Her står bilen vår fast. The place where our car got stuck.
Here is SPsir, looking for stones in the steep hillside to help the car get a grip on the road again.
Her er beina mine. This is the sand we got stuck in. My feet went even deeper than this when I got out of the car.
Everything was done to get us out of the pit. Even a bussload stopped by and people tried to lift the car. Finally after digging under the car, where it was stuck to the road, on the picture Mona, who didn't give in until we finally managed after two hours to get loose and continue the dangerous trip.
However we still had to drive on the winding road, in the steep hills, and now it was dark. We were singing worshipsongs and praying that we would reach the hospital alive and well. 22.40(almost 11 pm) we finally reached Chaurajahari. Thanks to God, we didn't die.. one thing is sure here in Nepal, that if your go travelling you will get a lot of free action, not only the ride, but most likely a cracy ride...
